Asda backs out of East End site after protest

Asda has scrapped plans to anchor St Modwen’s Queens Market proposals in east London, following a strident campaign by 160 stallholders.

Asda was the preferred anchor tenant for a new housing and retail project that will see most of the 100-year-old covered market bulldozed and rehoused.

St Modwen said it was already in talks with two other supermarkets about the site at Queen’s Market in Upton Park, east London.
