Asda exits London ‘dark stores’

Asda plans to shed sheds as it streamlines its business.

The chain said that it could close warehouses in Dartford, Kent and Heston, west London, that are also used by click-and-collect customers.

This is despite a growing emphasis on online shopping. Asda has increased its online capacity by 90% since March last year, but is trying to find a more profitable route for online shopping.

A spokesperson said the deal was not linked to Asda’s new ownership after the £6.8bn takeover by the Issa brothers and TDR Capital.
