Asda is continuing to look at a possible bid for some of Somerfield’s outlets.
Co-operative Group is thought to be another contender. Other supermarket chains have ruled themselves out because of fears of an antirust inquiry or because the outlets do not meet their needs.
Asda is expected to outline a store opening programme today.
