Asda reveals £260m Scottish store investment

 


Asda will invest more than £260m over the next four years on new and existing stores in Scotland.


 


The supermarket giant confirmed today that it plans to ramp up the expansion of its store portfolio in the country between 2009-12.


 


Its portfolio currently comprises 47 food stores, one Asda Living store and two distribution centres. Next month, Asda will open a new store in Glenrothes.


 


Asda has been established in Scotland since 1972.


 


It ploughed more than £260m into its store portfolio, improving the product and service choice throughout Scotland, between 2003-08.


 


Andy Clarke, chief operating officer at Asda, said: “This major investment demonstrates our on-going commitment to providing high-quality goods and services at affordable prices to even more people across Scotland


 


“Our stores play an important part in revitalising local communities and providing accessible, low-cost shopping to our customers.”


 


Asda has also announced today that it will submit plans to Leeds council this summer to build a 37,000 sq ft store on St Georges Road and Holme Well Road in Middleton.


 


 The plans also include a petrol station and around 350 parking spaces.
