Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley has written to BHS administrators expressing an interest in taking over some of its 163 stores.
The move, which could involve taking over the BHS brand and saving jobs, comes after administrators Duff & Phelps failed to find a buyer for the collapsed business.
Ashley is interested in buying between 60 and 80 stores and would likely convert parts into a Sports Direct format similar to the way it operates concessions with Debenhams outlets, according to The Times.
A spokesman for Sports Direct said: “We can confirm that we have a continued interest in BHS and that we have written to the administrator seeking to re-open a dialogue about saving a number of jobs and stores along with the BHS name.”
