Eight thousand people have marched in protest against turning HMS Daedalus into a centre holding single male asylum-seekers.
The Home Office said it would take note of opposition to the centre in Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire, as part of its consultation with the local community.
It emphasised the government had made accommodation centres a key element of the reform of the asylum process.
