Asylum-hotel plan delayed

Ministers have agreed to delay plans to house asylum seekers in a three-star hotel in Kent.

Tony Blair, prime minister, described lack of consultation over the plan to use the Coniston Hotel, in Sittingbourne, as inadequate and wrong.

Iain Duncan Smith, opposition leader, told the Commons “lunatics” had taken over the governments asylum policy.
