Eurotunnel has called for the closure of the Sangatte refugee centre near Calais in France after asylum seekers invaded the Channel tunnel and forced it to close for 10 hours.
There were no Eurostar services scheduled, but freight and Le Shuttle’s car and coach services were cancelled.
Kevin Charles, a Eurotunnel executive, said the incident was an example of why the French government should close the Sangatte centre, which is just over a mile from the tunnel entrance.
