Atrium appoints new chief exec

Atrium European Real Estate has appointed a new chief executive after Rachel Lavine was appointed to the role of executive vice chairman.

Lavine – who currently serves as chief executive – will assume the new role on 30 November, remaining a director of Atrium, which operates and develops retail property and shopping centres in Central and Eastern Europe.

Josip Kardun, who is currently chief operating officer and deputy chief executive, will succeed Lavine as chief executive.

Prior to joining the Atrium group, Kardun was chief investment officer with European retail property specialist ECE Projektmanagement GmbH & Co KG.

Chairman Chaim Katzman said: “Rachel Lavine has acted as chief executive of the Atrium group since the change of control of Atrium was effected in August 2008, and has shown considerable skill, talent and acumen in transforming the group into one of the leading and most respected real estate enterprises in Europe.

“Under Rachel’s leadership, the Atrium group has experienced five consecutive years of growth, seen its portfolio enhanced through strategic acquisitions, dispositions and development and established a regime of strong corporate transparency.

“The board is confident that, with Josip Kardun’s wealth of experience, in-depth knowledge of group’s business activities and its regions of operation, he is a worthy successor as CEO of the Atrium group. The board joins me in wishing him every success in his new position.”

Lavine said: “Having overseen a period of sustained growth, I have decided that the time has come to hand over the reins of day-to-day group management to a new generation of leadership, and I have every confidence that my colleague Josip has the requisite experience, talent and ability to build on our achievements.”
