Top marks for former teacher
The National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers has named Ian Taylor Auctioneer of the Year. Conducting a mock auction at Stratford Manor, Warwickshire, in which candidates were tasked with selling four lots over 12 minutes with a series of disruptions, Taylor was commended for assured delivery, sales technique and composure under pressure. The eight finalists were not allowed to have sold at ?auction or conducted a first sale in the 12 months prior to the competition. Taylor, originally from Trebanos, ?near Swansea, now works for Peter Francis Auctioneers, following 10 years as a school teacher.
Symonds & Sampson hits 88%
Symonds & Sampson achieved a success rate of 88% at its auction at Digby Hall in Sherbourne, Dorset, last week. Of 33 lots offered, 29 sold, with seven prior, raising a total ?of £9.3m. The highest selling lot was a two-storey unmodernised farmhouse and 79 acres of land at Newlands Lane, which fetched £1.2m. Other major sales included 86 acres of land and a farmhouse outbuilding at Ashley Farm, sold in parcels prior to the auction.
Eddisons’ West Yorks hat-trick
Eddisons has completed three sales across West Yorkshire, totalling more than £3m and reflecting increasing demand for stock in the region. The sales included a 30,000 sq ft former John Menzies site on the Euroway Trading Estate, where Eddisons and Colliers were joint agents. A 27,000 sq ft unit on the West 26 industrial estate in Cleckheaton was sold for VTL Holdings off an asking price of £1.2m, with Eddisons and Bramleys joint agents. Bridge House, a 29,880 sq ft industrial unit in Bramley, also sold off an asking price of £795,000.
