London estate lots on offer

Barnett Ross is offering four north London lots on behalf of executors at its 12 May sale at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, W1. Each has been in the same family ownership for more than 50 years and two are on an adjoining site. They are being offered at a combined guide price of £2.9m.

Overall sales top £1bn

First-quarter auction sales exceeded £1bn for the first time in nine years in 2016, according to Essential Information Group. The total was up by 28% on the same period last year to £1.1bn. The total number of lots sold rose by 10%, but commercial sales fell by 18%.

Phillip Arnold hits 88%

Phillip Arnold Auctions sold 88% of the 16 lots offered at its 13 April sale, raising £7.1m. A freehold hotel arranged as 20 self-contained units sold prior for £2.8m to a London council planning to continue using it as a hostel for the homeless. The sale took place at Doubletree by Hilton, E5.

Cottons scores in Brum

Cottons achieved an 89% success rate at its 14 April sale at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham. The 35 lots sold raised £3.6m.

Auction House has record Q1

Auction House has recorded its highest-performing first quarter in its nine-year history. From January to March, 729 lots were sold across the country – a 78% success rate. The total raised was £92.2m, 14% up on Q1 2015’s total.
