Vanishing act from haunted house A haunted house and land – with or without planning permission – were snapped up at Countrywide Property Auctions’ latest roadshow of seven sales. Auctioneer Mike Logan Wood maintained that the house in Upper Mayfield, Ashbourne, attracted more bidders because it was reputed to be haunted. It sold under the hammer in front of television crews for £56,000 against a £50,000 guide. Land sold well at all seven venues because, as Logan Wood puts it, “they don’t make land anymore”. The series of auctions raised more than £8m from the sale of 295 out of 361 lots (82%). Good take-up at airport auction Preston-based Roy Pugh & Co raised more than £893,000 from its mixed commercial and residential sale at Manchester Airport last week, where 32 of the 49 lots sold (65%). A part-vacant commercial investment in Raby Road, Hartlepool, sold under the hammer for £210,000.
