It was knocked down at £470,000 … Hartnell Taylor Cook have sold the former La Retraite Tennis Courts, Royal York Crescent, Clifton, Bristol, previewed on this page on February 22. The 1/8-acre site, divided into seven plots, made £215,000 — the envisaged price was £200,000. The money raised has gone to the Cancer Help Centre in Cornwallis Grove. A local developer, Mike Hawthorne, was the buyer. St John Hartnell, senior partner of Hartnell Taylor Cook and the firm’s auctioneer, said: “Clifton Village has a unique atmosphere and this land was probably the last opportunity to purchase a bare site close to its centre. The houses will be about 1,200 sq ft each and will fetch in excess of £100,000.” … At 10 Cavendish Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, shown here, a detached house which is divided into five flats and a cottage fetched £160,000. The house has 63 years left on the lease at a ground rent of £70 pa. One of the flats is let at £1,450 pa. Auctioneers were Rumsey & Rumsey and Willoughby & SonsAbbotts, acting for Basildon Development Corporation among others, last week offered 24 properties. Among the corporation’s lots was “Gibcracks”, Barstable West, Basildon, Essex, six industrial units on an estate of 13. Total income from the six is £17,979 pa and price achieved was £127,000.
