The average £1,010 cost of renting a one-bedroom property accounts for two-thirds of a tenant’s disposable income, peer-to-peer lender Landbay said.
In London the average cost rose to £1,461, or 74% of disposable income. Excluding London, the average cost nationwide was £588.
Rents rose by an annual 1.83% in August, with all regions recording a rise apart from London, where rents edged 0.01% lower.
