Avison Young’s Gerry Hughes steps down

Gerry Hughes, the former chief executive of GVA, is leaving the business two and half years after its purchase by Avison Young.

Hughes became principal and president of Europe at Avison Young following its takeover of GVA, which was struck in late 2018. A spokesman for Avison Young said his role was unlikely to be replaced directly but would instead be shared across the European leadership teams.

Hughes said: “After 30 or so years with GVA and Avison Young, I am leaving Avison Young to pursue other business ventures. It has been an amazing journey. My passion has always been around the interplay of people and the built environment and the power of buildings and places to enable social and economic benefit and I’m looking forward to continuing my work in this space.

“I wish the teams at Avison Young all the best and look forward to watching the firm’s continued success in the future, particularly as they continue to build their European platform.”

The spokesman added: “We wish [Hughes] well and are grateful to him for his leadership. The expansion of our European business remains central to meeting our clients where they need us to be. Our European leadership team continuing forward is delivering value for our clients and actively integrating new markets into our service delivery platform.”

Hughes spent some 24 years in the GVA business, including as its national head of planning, development and regeneration before being named its chief executive.
