Aviva Investors names new head of real estate

Aviva Investors has named Ben Sanderson as the new managing director of its real estate business.

Sanderson will join the asset manager in January and report to Daniel McHugh, who had been real estate managing director until February when he was named chief investment officer for real assets.

Sanderson joins from Federated Hermes – where he has spent 13 years, most recently as executive director for fund management – overseeing real estate debt investment programmes and the company’s ESG strategy.

Earlier in his career Sanderson worked at M&G Real Estate, where he was fund manager for the Global Real Estate Securities Fund and head of global strategy and view formation for private real estate investments.

James Stevens, who led the real estate business on an interim basis since McHugh’s promotion, has been named head of real estate investment, reporting to Sanderson.
