Aviva reveals plans for 101 Moorgate scheme

Aviva Investors has lodged plans for its office and retail redevelopment at 101 Moorgate in the City of London, EC2.

The company is working on a building with eight floors of office space and five retail units at ground level, with green walls on the north and south sides, as well as a roof garden. The site will also include a new thoroughfare between Moorgate and Moorfields, known as Keats Place.

101 Moorgate is opposite what will be the western entrance to the Liverpool Street Crossrail ticket hall.

Aviva completed its purchase of the site from Transport for London a year ago. The site already has planning permission for a building with six floors of offices alongside retail space.

However, in documents submitted to the City of London Corporation, Aviva said: “Over seven years have lapsed since the original application was approved. In this time both the commercial and retail sectors have changed dramatically in light of the evolving workplace and high street. Improving the proposal in light of this context also aligns with the City’s strategy to rejuvenate and enhance principal areas such as Moorgate.

“The proposed scheme seeks to respond to these needs and proposes a carefully considered design proposal to meet the current and future requirements of office occupants, as well as providing appropriate retail provision to the ground level of the site to bring vitality and activity to the site.”

Savills is acting for Aviva on the planning application.
