Netflix has signed up to expand the film and production facility at a famous studio complex in Surrey.
The deal will see the streaming company take a long-term lease at Longcross Studios. The leasing is a win for Aviva Investors, which owned the 72-acre production site in a joint venture with Crest Nicholson, but has now bought it outright in a £45m deal.
The studios have been used in James Bond, Star Wars and Marvel movies, and include four main stages, 200 acres of backlot, a two-and-a-quarter mile test track, an off-road course and a 150-year-old manor house.
James Stevens, head of development for global real estate at Aviva Investors, said the project “will increase the depth and breadth of local employment opportunities, while also creating value for the UK pension schemes that make up a large proportion of our investor base”.
Netfix’s vice president of physical production for Emea and the UK, Anna Mallett, described the deal as “underscoring the company’s commitment to investing in the UK creative industry”.
