B&M Retail buys 11 Focus DIY stores

Ernst & Young, the joint administrator of Focus DIY, have sold 11 stores to B&M Retail.

DIY retailer Wickes, part of building merchant Travis Perkins, also bought 13 Focus stores for £8.4m from Ernst & Young on 17 May.

As revealed by EG, Focus chief executive Bill Grimsey was working up plans that could see him buy back a raft of the collapsed retailer’s stores. He is understood to be considering options for a management buyout that would acquire as many as 70 stores from E&Y.

The 175-strong Focus collapsed into administration on 5 May after breaching its banking convenants.
