B&Q has unveiled plans for a £65m distribution headquarters in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
The retailer has today submitted a planning application for a 1m sq ft (92,900 sq m) warehouse scheme at the former Manton Colliery site.
Plans comprise a two-phase development with a single building of 750,000 sq ft ( 69,675 sq m ), with possible future expansion of up to 250,000 sq ft (23,225 sq m)
Logistics specialist Exel will operate the centre on behalf of B&Q.
If granted permission, the centre will be open by the end of 2005.
Dave Lowther, B&Q’s director of logistics, said: “This development is critical to B&Q, being at the heart of our distribution operations for the UK. We’ve spent two years evaluating locations and designs for this development.”
The news follows B&Q’s decision to build another 1m sq ft (92,900 sq m) distribution centre at Skelmersdale in the North West.
