Airport’s group BAA has teamed up with serviced office provider HQ Global Workspaces to roll out the first of its new serviced conference and business centre facilities at Gatwick Airport.
Julian King, managing director of business development in Europe for HQ, said: “BAA has teamed up with us to tap into the network of customers we have. Gatwick is a gateway to the US and we have over 400 centres there. BAA would like to replicate our plans at Heathrow and we have been in extensive discussions and are in the process of identifying space. We’ll work in close co-operation with existing hotels at the airports.”
The Gatwick scheme will comprise 743 sq m (8,000 sq ft) at Norfolk House, in the south terminal, providing 18 meeting rooms. There will also be a touchdown area, where people can work between meetings and flights. It will also provide conference, meeting and training facilities, including audio visual and videoconferencing, secretarial and administrative support and catering.
The Gatwick scheme will open mid-January 2001. The partnership intends to expand the concept to BAA airports in the UK and worldwide over the next year to 18 months. BAA owns and operates seven airports in the UK at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Southampton, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It also has interests in nine international airports.
