BAA Lynton’s Stansted Airport hotel plans have liftoff

Architect Aukett Europe has unveiled designs (pictured) for a 350-room, four-star hotel for Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts at Stansted Airport.

As reported by EGi on 4 December, the 226,000 sq ft (20,995 sq m) hotel, which is being developed by BAA Lynton, will lie to the north east of the Foster & Partners-designed Stansted terminal building, to which it will be linked by a covered pedestrian walkway.

The low-rise design, which planning restrictions prevent from exceeding the height of the terminal building, comprises three groups of bedroom blocks inter-linked by a full height atrium at the centre.

Construction will begin in the spring of 2002, with completion expected by the end of 2003. The design allows the hotel to extend up to 500 rooms.

Insignia Hotel Partners marketed the site on behalf of BAA Lynton.
