A £30m retail development, which is expected to generate up to 600 jobs near South Normanton in Derbyshire, has been given the green light after years of political and legal wrangling. Neighbouring councils unsuccessfully opposed its construction in the High Court.
The 10.12 ha (25-acre) site will house a “designer outlet village”, to be developed by BAA McArthur/Glen Europe. The first phase of construction includes removal of a colliery spoil tip. Bolsover district council granted permission for a retail park as long ago as 1990.
