BAA McArthur Glen rumoured to be planning outlet village for Wellingborough

BAA MacArthur Glen is rumoured to be planning the development of a 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) factory outlet village on a site on Wilby Way, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The 80ha (200 acre) site is owned by developer Hampton Brook, which has applied for consent to build a £10m leisure and retail scheme on the site.

The leisure element could include a multiplex cinema, a pub, a science centre, a golf driving range, a nine hole golf course, a widlife visitor centre, a nature park and a horticultural centre. Negotiations with facilities operators are now underway. Wellingborough Council will decide on the application by the end of September.

Graham Stanton of Hampton Brook said the development was “necessary as a catalyst to obtain substantial leisure opportunities for Wellingborough”. The developers are confident of gaining planning approval. The urban fringe site has a history of leisure scheme proposals and consent already exists for a golf course, tennis centre and a hotel.

Lambert Smith Hampton advised Hampton Brook on the planning application.
