Backlash as immigration made easier for construction workers

The prime minister is facing a backlash from some Tory MPs after rules making it easier for construction companies to hire foreign workers came into effect.

Bricklayers, carpenters, masons, roofers, tilers, slaters, joiners and plasterers have been added to the shortage occupations list, which allows businesses to employ foreign workers below the skilled worker visa’s annual earnings threshold of £25,600.
