Balfour Beatty faces High Court action

A Middle Eastern business consultant is suing Balfour Beatty Construction International for more than £200,000 in a dispute over the construction company’s expansion plans in Egypt.

Dr Mohsen Salamony, of 35 Winn Road, Lee, London, alleges that his company, British Investment Management & Consulting House entered into a consultancy agreement with Balfour Beatty in 1995. Under the agreement, British Investment allegedly agreed to provide consultancy services for banks and financial institutions that were interested in a joint venture for building developments in Egypt, in return for a fee of $250,000.

The claimant says that the money was to be paid, regardless of whether the venture had occurred. He added that work had been carried out on the project before Balfour Beatty announced its decision to postpone the plans.

Balfour Beatty has allegedly failed to pay British Investment’s invoice for £150,000. Dr Salamony is now suing the construction company for £150,000, plus interest of £51,551.04 together with continuing interest of £32.88 per day.
