A judicial review challenge has delayed ING Real Estate Development’s 60m (£41m) Ballymac factory outlet village in Dundalk, County Louth, by more than a year.
ING and partner Coverfield Development had hoped to open Ballymac next spring, but out-of-court settlement of the challenge from developer Donal Kinsella and local businessman Brian Mulholland has banned it from starting work before 1 September 2006.
A rival scheme 20 miles away, Land Securities’ and GML Estates’ 205,000 sq ft Outlet at Bridgewater Park in Banbridge, will now open before Ballymac.
GML chairman John Farmer said: “The delay to Ballymac Village endorses our retail partners’ decision in terms of the location for their brand.”
But Coverfield managing director Billy McKinney countered: “Dundalk has its motorway links in place and draws on the largest catchment.”
