Irish developer Ballymore has signed Starwood Hotels to manage a five-star Sheraton at its 2.5m sq ft mixed-use Eurovea scheme in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The 207-bed Sheraton Bratislava will open at The Eurovea International Trade Centre, located on a 34-acre site alongside the river Danube, in spring 2009.
The hotel will include a restaurant, bar and 8,600 sq ft health club, spa and swimming pool.
Details of the signing were unveiled as Ballymore chief Sean Mulryan and Bratislava Lord Mayor Andrej Durkovský this week laid the foundation stone for the development.
Ballymore also revealed that a Marks & Spencer franchise partner has taken 32,300 sq ft of the 430,000 sq ft of retail, alongside tenants including Sportisimo, Nike, Next, Mothercare, Benetton and Sephora.
The first phase, of what is Slovakia’s largest ever private project, comprises 430,000 sq ft of shops, 250,000 sq ft of offices, the Sheraton Bratislava, a casino, cinema and healthclub and 250 flats.
The second phase will add 900 flats and 930,000 sq ft of offices.
Durkovský said: “I see the Eurovea International Trade Centre project as one of the most important investment plans in Bratislava in recent years.
“I believe Eurovea will become an example of high quality architecture that will bring a completely different quality of life to this part of our town, including conditions for living, work and leisure activities all of this in direct contact with the water.”
Peter Bacon, executive director of Ballymore, said: “During the past four years Ballymore has succeeded in assembling a coherent site and obtaining all necessary planning permits and consents required to commence and complete the project.”
