Bank of England returns to 82 King Street, Manchester

The Bank of England is returning to its former home at 82, King Street, Manchester after a gap of 20 years – but not to the listed banking hall it first occupied in 1826.

The Bank has taken 250 sq m (2,700 sq ft) on the third floor of the 13-storey 7,454sq m (80,238 sq ft) tower adjoining the refurbished former banking hall. The bank has taken the space as part of its new regional network of economic intelligence offices. It has ceased note distribution in the city, which is now concentrated in London and Leeds.

The scheme is by FPPS, property fund managers for Friends Provident. Trevor Sloan of letting agent Grimley, said the rent achieved was “not far off” the quoting rent of £242.20 per sq m (£22.50 per sq ft). Lambert Smith Hampton advised the bank.

Chubb Insurance and Regus have also taken space in the development.
