Barclays has agreed to buy around 470,000 sq ft in office space at Drum Property Group’s Buchanan Wharf in Glasgow.
The development will contain space for around 2,500 employees, almost double Barclays’ current workforce in Scotland.
The bank also has the option to extend its campus by an additional 210,000 sq ft in a second phase development at the site.
Drum is working with Barclays to finalise designs for the new purpose-built campus.
Barclays chief operating officer, Paul Compton, said: “The Glasgow campus at Buchanan Wharf will be a flagship project for the bank, which builds on Barclays’ long history in Scotland and clearly demonstrates our commitment to supporting the UK economy.”
Barclays is also looking to prelet circa 600,000 sq ft in Manchester city centre in a move to create a north of England mega-campus.
It is understood Barclays has considered a number of options in Manchester, including Mayfield, MediaCity and Circle Square.
