Barings hires BlackRock director

Barings has hired Rupert Gill, the former head of European real estate debt at BlackRock, to lead portfolio management for its European real estate debt offer.

Gill joins Barings from BlackRock, where he was head of European real estate debt for nearly seven years, having been hired to build its European team and raise its first commingled European real estate debt fund. He has also held senior positions at LNR Partners Europe/ Hatfield Philips International, Lloyds Bank and ABN Amro Bank.

In his new role, Gill will be oversee strategy development and the execution of investment solutions. He will lead the European real estate debt portfolio management team that covers private debt real estate mandates, encompassing commingled funds and separately managed accounts in Europe. Additionally, he will sit on the European real estate debt investment and valuation committees.

Gill will be based in London and report to Nasir Alamgir, head of US and European real estate debt.
