Barings hires Canary Wharf sustainability manager in new ESG role

Barings has appointed Kristina Arsenievich as director of European real estate ESG, leading its ESG efforts across debt and equity portfolios.

Arsenievich has spent more than 10 years in sustainability leadership roles, most recently at Canary Wharf Group where she was senior sustainability manager. Earlier in her career she worked at Arup as a sustainability consultant.

She will work in London and report to James Salmon, head of European real estate asset management. She will join the company’s Real Estate Global ESG Committee, working alongside its global sustainability team in the US on carbon-neutral and climate resilience policies.

Arsenievich said Barings has “a crucial role to play in leading by example and incentivising the value chain to transition to a low-carbon economy”.

Salmon added: “The real estate industry is going through a transformative period, with its impact on our environment and wider society under greater scrutiny than ever before.

“We have been developing our ESG strategy both on a corporate level and as part of our investment strategy for some time but with Kristina’s appointment we are taking the integration of this strategy to the next level in Europe.”
