Barratt chair backs Labour’s growth plan

Barratt Development’s chair, John Allan, has publicly supported Labour’s plan to “deliver the highest sustained growth in the G7”.

Allan said “many businesses will welcome Labour’s commitment”. He called for companies to start working with the party “to create a detailed plan so that, if Labour form the next government, they can hit the ground running on day one”.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is expected today to cite new analysis of World Bank data suggesting that, if average growth rates since 2010 were to continue, by 2030 Britain would have weaker GDP per capita than Poland and by 2040 would lag behind Hungary and Romania.

In a speech last week he vowed that a Labour government would deliver the highest sustained growth in the G7, as one of five key pledges.

Writing in The Times, shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “Labour will work hand in hand with business, bringing in catalytic public investment through our Green Prosperity Plan, updating our planning system to remove barriers to investment in new industries.”
