Barratt Developments rejects slowdown fears

Britain’s largest housebuilder has shaken off fears of a slowdown in the property market and vowed to become “bigger than it has ever been”.

Barratt Developments completed 17,579 homes in the year to June, compared with 17,395 a year earlier. Its most productive year to date was 2008, when it completed 18,500 properties. It wants to build 20,000 homes a year within the next three to five years.

“The housing market is in a good place,” David Thomas, chief executive, said.
