Barratt has bought the former Herts & Essex Hospital at Bishops Stortford.
It intends to develop 303 homes across the site and the scheme is expected to have a completed value of £60m.
The site is one of eight former hospitals across London and the South East bought by Barratt this year, which will comprise in total 1,500 homes worth £280m.
