Barrhead places its bets on retail park development

London & Scottish Property Investment Management’s development arm has secured consent for a new £15m retail park in Barrhead, on the outskirts of Glasgow, replacing a former Nestlé Purina factory.

East Renfrewshire Council has approved the scheme for a 7.6-acre plot at the site, which sits on Glasgow Road. The council will retain four acres for further development.

The 64,000 sq ft retail park will count retailers Lidl, B&M and two drive-throughs in its line up, including Burger King. Construction will begin in early 2021.

Andy Richardson, development director at London & Scottish, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent for this major investment, which will create between 190 and 210 retail jobs as well as numerous construction roles.”

Tony Buchanan, leader of East Renfrewshire Council, said: “The site has been derelict for 15 years since the factory stopped operating.

“Thanks to Glasgow City Region City Deal funding, we have been able to prepare the land for development and look forward to seeing it transformed into a thriving shopping location through this agreement.”
