The government is to approve the £76m Salisbury bypass. The decision to build the 11-mile A36 bypass is certain to re-ignite protests about the destruction of the countryside by road building. The new road follows a route through the pastoral setting of Salisbury cathedral, and across the River Avon and its tributaries.
