The Daily Telegraph reports on the final rounds of the battleto build Britain’s first toll motorway, the 27-mile, £380mBirmingham northern relief road.
An environmental pressure group has mounted a two-pronged legalattack, by judicial review and by statutory objection.
The company granted the concession to build and run the road isMidland Expressway, a joint venture between Kvaerner and Italian motorway operator Autostrade. They hope to begin building next yearand for it to be completed by 2002.
