The BBC has confirmed Birmingham’s £150m Mailbox mixed-use scheme is its preferred choice for the relocation of its Pebble Mill operation.
As tipped on EGi last month, the BBC looks set to move from its headquarters of 40 years at Pebble Mill, off Pershore Road in Birmingham, to the Mailbox scheme in the city centre. The corporation is understood to be about to sign for 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) of space to house a scaled-down regional operation.
BBC governors will make a decision by Christmas to approve the relocation. Last August the BBC confirmed 90 redundancies and the closure of two of Pebble Mill’s three studios.
