BCDC approves development brief for 21,367 sq m Wednesfield retail and leisure scheme

The Black Country Development Corporation has approved the development brief for Black Country Properties and Lanhams 21,367 sq m (230,000 sq ft) retail and leisure scheme at Bentley Bridge Park, on the edge of Wednesfield town centre, West Midlands.

The brief incorporates provision for a network of routes between the town centre and the site, including cycleways and footways, a canalside greenway and a traffic-free boulevard.

The development already has outline planning consent. Last April, Environment Secretary John Gummer announced that he was not going to call in the scheme.

The leisure element will comprise a 9,290 sq (100,000 sq ft) multiplex (which Cine UK will operate), a 3,251 sq m (35, 000 sq ft) Mecca bingo hall and 800 parking spaces.

The retail element will provide 12,077 sq m (130,000 sq ft) with another 700 parking spaces.

Chesterton is letting agent.
