BCSC elects board members and welcomes new president

The British Council of Shopping Centres’ (BCSC) members have elected 10 candidates to the board of management and ushered in a new president.

Andrew Ogg took over on 21 January from Hammerson chief executive John Hammond as president of the 1,500-strong retail property organisation.

Ogg, managing director of architect Leslie Jones, is the first architect to become BCSC president in its 20-year history.

He said his principal focus would be to revive the organisation’s Urban Task Force and “seek innovative solutions that would allow smaller towns and communities to achieve the benefits of the urban agenda in their own right”.

Newly elected members of the 34-strong main board are:

  • Jeremy Collins, head of retail development at John Lewis Partnership, who joins in the retailer category
  • Philip M Evans, partner at Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker, who joins in the centre/asset management category

Re-elected members are:

  • Graham Hewitt, head of property management for WH Smith
  • Sue Jarvis, director of property acquisitions at Debenhams Retail
  • Christopher M Robson, head of property management for McDonald’s Restaurants
  • Andrew J Martin, director of retail group at Hermes Property Asset Management
  • Shelia M King, director of retail leasing at Hammerson
  • Keith Stone, retail director of Lend Lease Retail
  • Derek Barker, managing director of Haskoll
  • Charles Costello, property manager for Superquinn/Blackrock Centre in Dublin

The main board helps set policy for the organisation.

BCSC chief executive Michael Green said: “BCSC’s board of management is instrumental in setting the course we take as an organisation.

“Their respective interests and responsibilities help us to crystallise our approach to areas such as centre finance, investment, design, development, management and operation in terms of creating relevant industry events and educational material.”
