WestfieldStratfordCity has set a new record by achieving 1m footfall in six days of opening.
Bill Giouroukos, Westfield‘s UK director of operations, said the number was unprecedented for a UK shopping centre opening.
“We were excited and pleased about the opening because we set a date and got there,” said Giouroukos. “Opening is not the end, it is the beginning of a new phase.”
The east London mall has smashed the record set by its west London sister shopping centre – Westfield London in WhiteCity – which took 10 days to hit the 1m visitor mark.
More than 200,000 people visited WestfieldStratfordCity on its first day of opening, followed by more than 150,000 each weekday afterwards.
