Department store chain Beales is on the brink of collapse with just days to complete a sale or rescue deal.
Sources report interest from at least two suitors including one retail firm and a venture capital investor.
The chain, which has 22 stores, appointed KPMG in the final trading week before Christmas after announcing pretax losses of £3.2m in the year to March 2019 and debts of £15.8m.
Meanwhile, Mothercare’s remaining 79 stores closed for the last time yesterday as the brand vanished from the British high street.
The week is proving a bad one for retailers, as Debenhams also closed the doors on six department stores, with 13 more due to be shuttered in the next week.
