Beatlemania cranks up price of Harrison’s home

The Merseyside childhood home of Beatles legend George Harrison has sold at auction for £156,000 – 56% above the guide price.

A private Liverpool investor sold three-bedroom 25 Upton Green to Jackie Holmes, an avid Beatles fan.

The £100,000 guide price set by Countrywide Property Auctions was beaten following competition from an American bidder and an investor from Lichtenstein.

The Harrison family moved into the then council house, in Speke, in 1950 when George was six years old. He lived there for 12 years.

It is the second Beatles childhood home to go on the market in the past 12 months after John Lennon’s 9 Newcastle Road in Wavertree, Liverpool, sold for £480,000 to a American fan.

The property had a guide price of £150,000.

Countrywide Property Auctions’ sale took place on 20 October at Liverpool’s Cavern Club.
