A Belfast estate agent who spent the weekend in custody in connection with money laundering appeared in the dock of Belfast Magistrate’s Court today.
Philip Johnston, who employs over 40 staff in six estate agencies in and around east Belfast, was arrested last Friday.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Johnston (39) faces four money laundering charges in connection with property contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
The police are opposing bail pending an application for High Court warrants which would allow offices belonging to Johnston to be searched.
The police believe that Johnston could “obstruct the course of justice” if bail was granted.
A solicitor for Johnston described the accused as “a man of previous good character”.
Magistrate Mark Hamill adjourned granting a decision on the bail application until Wednesday.
