Belfast firms merge to create one of NI’s largest agencies

Belfast firms Brown McConnell, Clark McKee and McConnell Martin have announced today they are merging to create one of Northern Ireland’s largest agencies.

The new firm, McConnell Chartered Surveyors, will have 32 people, is now one of the Province’s top five agencies, and will be based in the centre of Belfast.

Rory Clark of Brown McConnell Clark McKee said: “Over the years both companies have been successful, independent businesses with a reputation for professionalism and integrity. Both share a very similar ethos and our combined expertise in property management, agency, valuation and professional services will strengthen our position in the market and enable us to offer clients the best and most effective service.”

Rory McConnell of McConnell Martin added “When the idea of an amalgamation was first discussed, it quickly became clear that it was the right thing to do.

“With both firms having similar client bases and business ethics, the new firm will enjoy unparalleled strength in depth and experience in the local market. He added that it was almost 50 years to the day since his father, Desmond, had left R.J. McConnell & Co to form McConnell Martin, and that everything had now come round ‘full circle’.”

The new firm incorporates some of the best known names in Belfast surveying, going back over 150 years.

Brown McConnell Clark McKee can trace its origins back to 1854 when Ephraim Brown set up as a Rent Agent in Belfast.

The McConnell family has been in the property business in Belfast since 1873. RJ McConnell & Co amalgamated with Ephraim Brown & Son in 1973 and in subsequent years  the firm continued to grow, with the acquisition of  UPS Commercial and, more recently, WB McKee & Son
