Bellway goes Dutch on 371-acre Barking Reach designs

A development framework is being drawn up for 371 acres of brownfield land at Barking Reach in the Thames Gateway.

Bellway Homes has appointed two Dutch architects: Maxwan will take charge of urban planning while Karres en Brands will concentrate on landscape design.

The development framework is intended to provide for 11,000 homes in Barking Reach, one of five strategic areas announced by John Prescott last month as capable of supporting new settlement in the Thames Gateway.

Work will start on the masterplan this month, with the aim of submitting an outline planning application in spring 2004.
