Benchmark to buy part of London square for £22m

Benchmark is poised to buy the south side of Golden Square with a bid over £22m, beating off competition from a host of rival developers.

Frogmore, Rugby Estates, Capco and City & West End were all linked with the scheme, which is owned by private property company Taylor Clarke.

The 13 buildings that make up the property total 6,000 sq m (65,000 sq ft) and form the last developable section of the square. Taylor Clarke recently applied for consent for 1,626 sq m (17,500 sq ft) of walk-through retail space on the ground floor and basement with 5,110 sq m (55,000 sq ft) of offices above.

Selling agent DE&J Levy went to a number of developers who had already expressed an interest in the property last month seeking bids around £17m.
