Benchmark wins Golden Square redevelopment consent

Benchmark has been granted conditional planning consent from Westminster council for a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the southern side of Golden Square, London W1.

The scheme comprises 41,872 sq ft (3,890 sq m) of offices, 15,000 sq ft (1,394 sq m) of retail and a 5,000 sq ft (465 sq m) basement restaurant. Benchmark will retain the façade overlooking Golden Square, but buildings along Brewer Street will be demolished.

The development will also provide (5,748 sq ft) 534 sq m of residential at adjacent units on Lower John Street and Lower James Street.

Following consultation with English Heritage, Westminster stated that permission would be granted if Benchmark could ensure that only natural Portland stone is used on the outside of the buildings, and screening walls are put up internally.

Dunlop Heyward Baker Lorenz, DE & J Levy, Carter Wassell Murdoch and Davis Coffer Lyons are letting agents on the scheme.
