Benoy on board for £200m Telford revamp

Telford Town Centre CGI 570p

Detailed designs for Sovereign Land’s regeneration of Telford town centre are being drawn up by architect Benoy.

An outline masterplan for the £200m project, which will include more than 370,000 sq ft of shops and 230,000 sq ft of restaurants, cafes, bars and other leisure uses, was approved in the autumn.

The five-year project is intended to work in concert with the adjacent £250m Southwater leisure development, due to open this spring, to transform the Shropshire town centre.

Benoy said the scheme will improve linkages through the town, particularly between the shopping centre anchor and leisure activities, such as Southwater and the recently revitalised Telford town park. It will also change the existing shopping centre from an inward-facing structure, opening up the scheme by adding external fronts to form a co-ordinated sequence of external streets and squares.
